Can we see brain diseases in blood?

The brain is the center of all our thoughts that lead to actions executed by our body, from walking, grabbing a cup, or dancing. But what if we can't control that? What if our body dances or shakes on its own? That's what Parkinson's patients feel; their hands shake without them being able to control it. That's because of a specific protein called alpha-synuclein that aggregates neurons responsible for movement. What we are trying to do is to develop a blood test that can detect a fragment of alpha-synuclein known as a biomarker or biological marker. Its presence can show us whether a patient has this brain disease or not. This blood test is double-edged, as it could be used for the early detection of the disease; therefore, patients can work on preventing it, but it could also help improve drug development by choosing the correct patients, thereby avoiding wasting both time and money during the development.
