Biotechnology allows us to use living organisms to solve some of the biggest challenges we face: climate change, sustainable production, new medicines, and greener materials. In this talk, we explore how a simple soil sample from the forest can lead to the discovery of new microbes and new natural products. We will talk about how scientists identify useful organisms, understand how they function, and engineer them to produce valuable compounds. Finally, we follow the journey from early research in the lab all the way to industrial bioproduction of commercial products. The presentation will show how modern biotech is shaping a more sustainable future and how students today can become the scientists working on that.
