Hello! My name is Victor, a third-year PhD student at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). My academic journey has taken me from studying Biotechnology in Barcelona, my hometown, to earning a Master's in Chemical Engineering at TU Delft in the Netherlands, and even working in Switzerland on producing Moderna's Covid vaccine. Today, focused on the intriguing world of chemical and biological engineering in industrial processes, such as beer production, pharma production, bio-fuels...
Presentation Overview: In this presentation, I will take students on a journey through the intersection of biology, chemical engineering, and physics to explore how we can understand and manipulate cellular processes in an industrial environment. My research focuses on creating digital models—or "digital twins"—of cells, which allow us to simulate and optimize industrial processes like drugs and biofuel production in a virtual environment. This cutting-edge approach not only accelerates research and development but also introduces sustainability by minimizing resource usage and waste.
Sustainability and Relevance: The heart of my research lies in transforming traditional chemical processes into more sustainable, bio-based alternatives. By optimizing how cells function in industrial settings, we can significantly reduce environmental impacts, combat climate change, and enhance production efficiencies. This is a prime example of how scientific innovation directly contributes to a more sustainable future.
Interactive Elements: To make this session as interactive and impactful as possible, I am planning to:

Conduct live demonstrations using simple models to illustrate how bioreactors operate and how digital twins are created.
Engage students with quizzes to test their understanding and stimulate discussion on potential improvements and sustainability in industry.
Showcase actual data and simulations to demonstrate the real-world application of these technologies.

From High School to PhD: I will also share my personal journey from high school to a PhD program, highlighting the challenges and milestones along the way, including my exciting year in the Swiss Alps working on the Covid vaccine. Hopefully this narrative will help students see the tangible pathways from their current studies to a career in science and engineering.
This presentation aims not only to educate but also to inspire students by showing them the fascinating possibilities at the crossroads of technology and sustainability. I look forward to exploring the potential of biology and chemistry with the next generation of scientists and engineers!
