Earth, our planetary habitat, appears to be quite special, simply by its ability to host life. Naturally, the question arises, whether there exist other such planets and if these are maybe even inhabited as well. In my research project, I focus on the characterization of planets outside our Solar System, so-called "exoplanets". In particular, I'm interested in the detection of atmospheres on other small planets as well as determining the gases present in their atmospheres. Findings in these other systems allow us to reflect back on the history of our own Solar System and help us understand the origins and nature of the conditions we find on Earth today and potentially the future. We've discovered plenty of interesting and sometimes also weird planets, which show us that not only Earth but also the Solar System as a whole is pretty special!
