From microstructures to mechanical properties

Faglige nøgleord: Metallurgy, crystal structure, microstructure, microscopy, x-rays, aluminium

Oplæg tilgængeligt på:dansk og engelsk

I would like to present how the mechanical properties of metals are controlled by the microstructures of these. I would like to show the students how little we actually know about metals even though metallurgy has been used in the society for hundreds of years. My work primarily focuses on aluminium and how the microstructures can be characterized in a way so we actually can describe nature, put differently I work with investigating microstructures in 3D as the materials are 3D and not in 2D as is the traditionally way of describing microstructures.

I would also like to tell about my way from high school to being a PhD student, which involves a lot of changing my mind but being able do to this without dropping out or spending extra time. I would like to put emphasis on that it is normal to change fields and that it is very much possible.  I would also like to tell about my search for a role model and how I found one.
