My project involves developing a method to test for new potential cancer medicine.
If successful, I will have made a new biological test for scientists to quickly identify whether their ideas could be successful in treating cancer in a specific way.
With my presentation, I am hoping to teach children about how it's like to live outside of Denmark, how my journey was like from high school until starting my PhD now, and that anybody could do scientific research if that is something they are interested in.
To make sure that the children will enjoy and learn from the presentation as much as possible, I will make use of quizzes and questions throughout my presentation. I will also leave some time at the end of my presentation for questions. I will also make sure to discuss with you what the level of chemistry and biology your class has and adapt my presentation to them to make sure that they will understand everything I will tell them.
To tell a little bit already about my journey after high school: I grew up in the Netherlands where I went to high school. After high school, I went to a vocational school where I studied basic analytical chemistry. When I graduated from this, I decided to stay for my Bachelor's degree during which I went to Stockholm for an internship. I liked it there so much that I decided to return to Sweden for my Master's degree. I worked after graduation at a small start-up in Malmö, but then I went to the Netherlands to work for a bigger company as a medicinal chemistry researcher. After working there for 2 years, I eventually applied for a PhD at DTU and that is where I have been working and studying since May of this year.
