1) The research focuses on improving the process of laminated glass cutting at the large scale manufacturing scale. The main goals of the project is to understand how bad cuts happen, why they occur at the material level and what we can do to improve the process. I will accomplish this by using numerical models (computer simulations) based on experimental results that will be conducted at DTU.
2) The sustainability angle of this project is the reduction of waste generated by improving the quality of the laminated glass at the factory level as well as the potential to increase the lifespan of the glass when in use. This is relavant to society in general due to the prevelance of glass being used in buildings throughout the world.
3) Originally from Puerto Rico, I have moved across the world and have been formally educated in 3 seperate countries for my higher education (USA for Bachelors, France for Masters and now Denmark for my PhD). I have also worked professionally in various countries (France, Spain, Netherlands) over the past 5 years prior to my PhD within a manufacturing environment. I feel that I bring a lot of experience for people interested in developing themselves internationally, something more and more important
