Some of the most important technologies of our age (the internet, GPS, Moderna Vaccine and Ozempic) were all created in university labs. There are many ways upon which science created in labs eventually becomes a product or service in society but one way which has built entirely new industries is through entrepreneurship by the inventors. So the inventors form a startup called a spinout which is a special type of startup, because it is formed from university research. For the startup to actual make money from the research (for google search to earn ad revenue for example), it needs to sign a contract with the university to get permission to use and build on that research.
I came all the way from Africa to do my PhD. My life has been quite an adventure, many ups and downs but somehow I was always interested in entrepreneurship (probably because my dad was an entrepreneur himself). Entrepreneurship creates independence and possibly generational wealth, it creates jobs and in many cases develops nations. So I dedicated my life to studying economics and later finance. And after a bachelors degree, two masters degrees and hopefully a PhD, I hope to contribute in education!
