1) I am studying aeroelasticity and control of wind turbine systems. My project designs a segmented blade that is built in two sections, like smart building blocks. During operation, because the moving part is smaller and lighter, it can react faster and with less gravity load & inertia. I also design the control system that lets each blade adjust on its own to smooth out uneven wind loads. With computer simulations, I will choose where the blade joint and pitching section should be and how the controller should be tuned.
2) If my research can provide the solution for the limitation of upscaling of wind turbines, this can contribute to cost reduction. (e.g., manufacture, transportation, installation) This will result in faster supplying and promoting of the wind turbines globally.
3) When I was a high school student, I wanted to be a marine engineer, so I entered maritime college. I worked for 4.5 years instead of doing military service and could feel the eternal potential of the sea during a sailor's life. The vessel where I worked was a liquefied natural gas carrier, so I also realized the energy transition from fossil fuel to natural gas and then renewable energy. That is why I studied wind engineering during my master's in South Korea. After graduation, I applied to DTU Wind because DTU Wind is the best institution in the world to study wind engineering.
