Why quantum is special: A story to discover how light and sound help us study the quantum world.
This presentation wants to show the strangeness of quantum mechanics, why I like it, and how it changed in our understanding of the world. I use a storytelling and showing through images style to explain the fundamental concepts and what we need them for. I can tune the presentation to include 1) some basic explanation of the most famous quantum technologies (quantum computing, quantum key distribution, ...), 2) some historical perspectives on the discoveries which lead to the current quantum theory,or 3) more on what exploring in my PhD project, i.e., interaction between light and matter and other non-linear phenomena.
In my presentation, I like to use images to explain abstract concepts with animations and a dynamic style. Even if the topic is difficult and usually requires a lot of abstract thinking, I try to simplify the explanation without losing the motivation and the cause/effect relations behind what happening.
Quantum technologies have seen a growing interest in the last 10 years, and a lot of misconception is spreading throughout the media. In my presentation, I follow a more accurate description, without removing the fascinating aspects of the field. I could include discussion about the impact of the media on the quantum research field. In high school, I studied Electronics and Computer Science. I graduated from the University of Padova (Italy);with honors, where I studied Information Engineering during my Bachelor and Photonics and Quantum Engineering during my Master. I came to Denmark for my Erasmus, and now, doing my PhD in Quantum Physics at DTU.
